ugh ok 2012 records

definitely was not paying as much attention this year to new things. i did listen to a few records over-and-over. maybe that’s because they were sitting by the record player for most of they year and i just reached for the familiar and convenient. I spent just as much, if not more time listening to OLD stuff this year. these are likely not the BEST things from 2012, but they are things i liked.

yeah me and everyone else. whatever this was good. i was SO into When The Pawn…  and honestly a little underwhelmed by Extraordinary Machine (either version). This one does it for me tho. Good job.

koz. crazier than ever. people thought this one was weird or disjointed or something. i didn’t.

this was a grower and a surprise. feels grown up and natural and yeah… indie rock! i’m as surprised as you.

yes absolutely. The “Ride” video alone gets this on the list.

man some people really hate this. they must hate fun too.

this… this is real good. hardware techno and electro that isn’t retro worship and actually has good melodies.

i haven’t listened to an ambient album repeatedly in a long time. this one i did. (it’s Heathered Pearls in case you can’t tell from the cover).

another surprise. this one IS pretty much retro worship but they somehow got those classic UK shoegaze melodies right in a way that few have. Also ditched the J&MC heroin nonsense in favor of something more lush and pretty. ex-Portraits Of Past :)

honorable mentions to the new Saint Etienne which I like a lot but maybe haven’t actually spent that much time with. Also most of the L.I.E.S. 12”s from the year although I’m hard pressed to pick a favorite (maybe the SSPS/Samo DJ). The Phillip Lauer record is also really good but I haven’t actually listened to it as much as I’ve listened to his singles and remixes and stuff. Big fan of that guy. Also I like the Ke$ha record a lot, but that song with Iggy Pop is such a horrible offense to the world that I can’t give it my 100% recommendation. There. I did it.
